Gardeners' Mound

Updated: Feb 17

Neighbors with a Purpose is Partnering with Youth Leaders from Memphis !

We are so excited to share that our garden site has been identified : Hanley Elementary in Orange Mound. Youth Leaders from Memphis voted for "Gardeners' Mound" as our name. "Gardeners" as there will be many. "Mound" to recognize Orange Mound, the neighborhood where Hanley is located. We envison our garden as place for students and neighbors to come together and build something amazing ! A place for Joy, Play, Skill Building and Healthy Food. From planning, budgeting & shopping...to planting, growing, building, celebrating, cooking and sharing ! Youth (elementary through high school ) will be involved in every step along the way.

We started this project by asking youth leaders from all districts in Memphis :

“If you had a magic wand and could get whatever you want or need for your local neighborhoods (school, community centers, parks, etc)....What would it be ?

What would make your neighborhood better for kids and teens ?”

These were their responses :

(The bolded areas are where Gardeners' Mound will have an impact on their feedback)
